Our Passion
We are driven by a burning desire to see our youth achieve success. We understand that some students will pursue a university degree while others will attend community college to learn a valuable trade. Some will decide to become entrepreneurs. Others will join the military. There are also students who enjoy the arts and may elect to attend the North Carolina School of The Arts. Our passion is to illuminate all the possibilities that students have for a successful future. Our Next Steps program is how we envision this passion growing.
Our Hope
We hope students will Google these schools to learn more about them. We hope students will be encouraged to study hard so that before graduation they can stand on a step to proudly let everyone know what their “next step” will be.
We want our students to see these institutions of higher learning on their steps every school day with the hope that it will provoke thought and inspire a dialogue between the student and their teacher/coach/counselor.

The Work You Don’t See
Our mission at mcHoward Initiative is to encourage local youth in the Winston Salem community to pursue opportunities they may feel are out of reach. Providing information and making that information easily accessible is just part of what we do. Because we do not believe a small fee should keep a student from graduating, mcHoward has paid the senior fees of those who are unable to do so.
We have helped seniors at the college level with fees at graduation so they are better able to move ahead with their career of choice. We have also had the opportunity to take college students who have been assigned to us shopping to upgrade their business attire, and show them how to build their personal brand. The privilege of helping these students to realize their potential is rewarding work. If you would like to support our Next Steps program, you can do so easily by donating today!
